The volume of investment in Ukraine’s economy has increased fourfold since 2004, Ukrainian Presidential press secretary Iryna Vannykova said at a briefing in Kyiv on Monday.

The issue of improving the investment climate in Ukraine was one of President Viktor Yuschenko’s "10 steps towards the people," she recalled.

Despite the changing governments, confidence in Ukraine’s economy has not dropped, Vannykova said.

"As a result, the volume of investment, including from abroad, has increased more than fourfold from $8.5 billion in late 2004 to approximately $38 billion in 2009," the press secretary said.

This is the result of a number of presidential decrees simplifying administrative procedures and mechanisms of regulating the economy, she said.
